Background & approach

John Mew introduced the Tropic Premise in 1981, and since then he and others have worked tirelessly to treat patients and spread the word about the jaw epidemic and craniofacial dystrophy.

John and Mike Mew have been very active campaigners, and the Jaws book by Sandra Kahn and Paul R. Ehrlich is a compelling call to action for parents and citizens. Thousands of patients have been involved in activism via advocacy groups and petitions.

Despite these efforts, in the almost 45 years since the Tropic Premise was introduced, there have been no significant changes to the standard practices in orthodontics. Clearly another piece of the puzzle, however small, has been missing.

Patients for Craniofacial Health was created on the belief that this puzzle piece is:

  • A patient-led organisation with a long-term presence, a clear and unified voice, and a focus on sustainable, repeatable, and visible advocacy.
